Often heralded as one of the greatest singer/songwriters of his generation, Jay Farrar is a founding member of two seminal rock bands – Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt. Through his solo work, a collaborative effort as Gob Iron, and the works of Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt, Farrar has released 13 critically-acclaimed albums. He continues to record and tour with Son Volt and plans to release a new Gob Iron album in 2008.
The producers of the film approached Farrar to write the film score, and he composed ten beautiful songs working with the actual prose of Jack Kerouac’s novel Big Sur. He collaborated with Benjamin Gibbard on several cuts recorded last summer at Hyde Street Studios and Prairie Sun Recording Studios in California.
